What it is

Brink Pro’s terminal tabs show a shell right in Brink’s panel. Brink draws the terminal; the shell itself runs in Brink Terminal Helper. The helper has no window. Brink starts it in the background when a terminal tab needs it.

You only need it for terminal tabs. Everything else in Brink works without it.

Why it’s a separate app

Apps from the App Store run in Apple’s App Sandbox, and Apple doesn’t let them run shells outside it. A shell inside the sandbox couldn’t run your Homebrew tools or anything you build. So the shells run in this small helper instead, which you download here rather than from the App Store.

The helper is signed with Cynaptic’s Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it like any other app downloaded from the internet. It talks only to Brink, on your Mac, and sends nothing anywhere. Your shell runs as you, with your account’s access, as it would in Terminal.

Install

  1. Download and unzip Brink-Terminal-Helper-0.1.0.zip (Safari may unzip it for you).
  2. Move Brink Terminal Helper to your Applications folder.
  3. Open it once. No window appears: it registers itself to run in the background and quits. macOS may say “Background Items Added”, or ask you to allow it in System Settings › General › Login Items; if it asks, turn on Brink Terminal Helper under Allow in the Background.
  4. Open a terminal tab in Brink (“+” › New Terminal), or click Try Again in one that’s waiting. From now on, Brink starts the helper whenever a terminal tab needs it.

Requirements

  • macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later, on a Mac with Apple Silicon or Intel.
  • Brink, with Brink Pro or its free 14-day trial for terminal tabs.

Remove it

  1. In System Settings › General › Login Items, under Allow in the Background, turn off Brink Terminal Helper.
  2. Drag Brink Terminal Helper from Applications to the Trash.

Brink’s terminal tabs will then say the helper is missing; nothing else changes.
