Folder tabsPro

Any folder, as a list like Finder’s, in a tab: sort it, open files, Quick Look them, copy or drag them out.

Brink Pro. Folder tabs are part of Brink Pro, which you can try free for 14 days.

Open a folder

Choose Open Folder… in the “+” menu (or Folder…, F, on the New Tab page) and pick a folder. It opens in a tab named after the folder, as a list like Finder’s. If a tab already shows that folder, Brink selects it instead.

A folder tab is for looking and opening. Brink never moves, renames or deletes anything in it.

The list

  • Columns: Name, Date Modified, Size, Kind and Date Added to start with. Right-click the column headers to show or hide Date Modified, Date Created, Date Added, Size and Kind. Drag a column’s edge to resize it, or its header to move it.
  • Sorting: click a column header; click it again to reverse the order.
  • Hidden files: the Hidden files checkbox shows files whose names start with a period, and files marked hidden.
  • Live: the list changes as files change. If the folder is moved, renamed or deleted, the tab says so.

Each folder tab keeps its own columns, sort and hidden-files setting, and comes back after a relaunch.

Get around

  • Double-click a folder, or select it and press Return or ⌘↓, to open it in the tab.
  • Back (⌘[) and Enclosing Folder (⌘↑) are above the list; or click a folder in the path bar.
  • Open several folders at once (select them, then Return or ⌘↓): the first opens in place, and each of the others in a folder tab of its own.

Work with files

  • Open: double-click, Return or ⌘↓. Files open in their own apps (Markdown files included).
  • Quick Look: Space.
  • Copy: ⌘C copies the selected files, to paste in Finder or another app. You can also drag files out.
  • Right-click a file for Open, Quick Look, Reveal in Finder and Copy Path (Copy Paths for several).

The tab’s own menu (right-click the tab) has Reveal in Finder and Copy Path for the folder itself.

Which folders Brink can see

Brink is sandboxed, as every App Store app is: it sees only the folders you pick in Open Folder…, and everything inside them. It remembers each one, so your folder tabs, and images and links in notes that point into them, still work after a relaunch.

If you go up past the folder you picked, the tab says Brink doesn’t have access to this folder. Click Allow Access… and pick that folder too.

Brink forgets a folder once no folder tab shows it and no note mentions its path. To see it again, pick it in Open Folder… again.
